Tip: Most civil registries do not attend without a prior appointment. Book in advance (there can be up to 2-3 months waiting time in large cities).
Option 2: online with an agency (recommended – hassle-free)
Use www.registrocivil.es → professional agency that processes any certificate from the Civil Registry of A Estrada for you.
Steps:
- Go to www.registrocivil.es
- Choose the certificate (birth / marriage / death)
- Fill in the form details
- Pay agency fees online
- Receive the original by registered post
Advantages:
- No appointment, no Cl@ve, no travel
- You can track your application
- They send the physical original document to your home (or abroad)
- Incident management (old records, errors, etc.)
- Online tracking with code RCXXXXXX
3. Official online application (Ministry of Justice)
- Access the Electronic Headquarters of the Ministry of Justice: sede.mjusticia.gob.es.
- Step by step:
- Identify yourself with Cl@ve, digital certificate, or electronic ID (not available without these).
- Select the type of certificate you wish to request
- Enter the corresponding certificate details
- Download the PDF with a secure verification code.
- Limitations: only for digitised records. If the death is old or not computerised, it will redirect you to an in-person application.
- Advantages: requesting the certificate is free.
- Disadvantages: there is no tracking of the application and the application may not be processed correctly if it has errors or missing information.
Practical advice
- Urgency: Use the online agency if you need the physical document quickly.
- International use: Request the Hague Apostille (the agency can include it).
- Old records (before 1950): May be on paper → only the agency or in-person.
